Position Focus:

The Research Assistant I (RA) will be a working member of the clinical research team at the PRIME Clinic and Treatment Program located at Connecticut Mental Health Center (CMHC). The role includes, but not limited to, assisting in the recruitment of subjects for studies, scheduling, preparation of materials for study visits and therapy sessions, conducting structured interviews and collecting specific data in a various of locations throughout CMHC and Yale School of Medicine according to the study specific protocols. The RA will also be responsible performing chart reviews to identify specific criteria for studies, and completing study chart completeness for compliance/regulatory visits, and document interactions and services according to the clinic and CMHC policies. The Research Assistant will also conduct data entry as needed per the study protocols and support literature reviews as requested for publication efforts.

This individual will participate in presentations and community outreach, orientation, and engagement of subjects to research protocols. The Research Assistant will also assist in coordination of subject's care between the clinic and outside providers under the guidance of PRIME Clinic’s clinicians. This team member is expected to attend weekly team meetings, recruitment meetings, and 1:1 supervision meeting their own professional growth. 

Essential Duties

1. Researches and collects data through site or home visit intakes; library research; structured interviews; or through other means for designated research assignments. 2. Records and compiles information related to research data. Codes data accordingly to research specifications. Uses a computer terminal to input and retrieve data and to generate reports. 3. Processes and summarizes data using scientific or statistical techniques. Assists in data interpretation and analyses. Reports on status of research activities. 4. Recruits study participants and ensures that subject recruitment and follow-up are completed per protocol procedures. 5. Orders and maintains inventory of supplies. May assist in designing, developing, and modifying research experiments, procedures, or survey instruments. May assist research and support staff. 6. Performs additional functions incidental to research activities.

Required Education and Experience

Six years of related and demonstrated work experience, four of them in the same job family at the next lower level, and high school level education; or four years of related and demonstrated work experience and an Associate's degree; or little or no work experience and a Bachelor's degree in a related field; or an equivalent combination of demonstrated experience and education.

Required Skill/Ability 1:

Have some familiarity (paid or volunteer) in conducting psychiatric interviews, assessments.

Required Skill/Ability 2:

Demonstrated ability (paid or volunteer) and comfort level working with people with serious mental health conditions.

Required Skill/Ability 3:

Demonstrated ability (paid or volunteer) for engaging patients in participation in research protocols and coordinating the scheduling of the research study visits.

Required Skill/Ability 4:

Ability to prep patients for visits, including biological specimen collection, and data collection and maintaining research or medical records.

Required Skill/Ability 5:

Ability to work with IRB procedures and consenting.

Preferred Education, Experience and Skills:

Bachelor’s degree in a related field. Prior experience conducting psychiatric interviews, assessments, and evaluations with individuals that are clinically high risk for psychosis (CHR). Experience engaging patients in treatment. Demonstrated ability with IRB procedures and consenting. Experience collecting biological specimens.
