Dr. Raquel Cuella Martin's lab at the Department of Human Genetics, Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences applies cutting-edge large-scale precision genome editing to address outstanding mechanistic questions in the DNA damage response and their association with human disorders. We are interested in the mechanisms whereby DNA repair and checkpoint control activities are integrated, and how they coordinate to preserve cellular homeostasis and suppress tumorigenesis.
Position Summary:
1. Manage your own academic research and support the research of other laboratory members as required.
2. Provide scientific support for CRISPR screening projects.
3. Be the go-to lab person for information and advice to other members of the group on scientific protocols and experimental techniques.
4. Keep up to date with and advise on matters relating to Good Laboratory Practice (GLP), health and safety, and other regulations relevant to the post. Be responsible for laboratory introduction of incoming lab members.
5. Plan and implement workflows and related processes to support the gene editing group, including establishing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and ensuring they are followed precisely.
6. Optimize and supervise the continued enhancement of protocols and processes (protocol optimization, adaptation for high-throughput, etc.)
7. Propose and assist with the implementation of new technologies
8. Maintain knowledge of the latest trends and technologies in this field
9. Monitor data quality and troubleshoot problems
10. Oversee maintenance of the instrument fleet, ensuring equipment is in serviceable order, including engaging and coordinating third-party service when required and troubleshooting when appropriate.
11. Contribute to the writing of project proposals, grants and manuscripts utilizing gene editing technologies.
12. Undertake mandatory training as required by the University, Division and Department.
13. Work alongside the PI to improve the laboratory functioning and laboratory working environment (i.e., assist the principal investigator in the organization of lab social activities).
14. Work closely with other elements of the Genome Centre to ensure the alignment of activity in joint projects, collaborations, etc.
15. Manage the administrative activities within the laboratory. This involves day-to-day laboratory organization such as ordering, equipment maintenance scheduling, lab task distribution, and common reagent database supervision.
Education/Experience:
Hold a graduate degree or equivalent relevant experience in molecular biology, clinical medicine, genetics/genomics or related area.

2. Excellent record keeping and efficiency- and precision-driven work approach.

Knowledge of French and English: McGill University is an English-language university where day to day duties may require English communication both verbally and in writing. The level of English required for this position has been assessed at a level 4 (qualifier) on a scale of 0-4
