The McGill Genome Centre at the Department of Human Genetics is looking to hire a Research Assistant 2.

Position summary

  1. Perform protein profiling assays using Olink® Proximity Extension Assay (PEA) technology, SomaLogic® SomaScan platform, and Illumina® Protein Perfect libraries following standardized protocols.
  2. Conduct biological sample preparation including nucleic acid/protein extraction, sample QC, and maintenance of sample integrity throughout workflows.
  3. Operate and maintain laboratory equipment including microfluidic devices and automated liquid handlers used in sample preparation and assay workflows.
  4. Assemble, prepare, troubleshoot, and test specialized platform devices for proteomics applications.
  5. Analyze and interpret experimental data using advanced data analysis tools (e.g., Python, R, GraphPad Prism) to support proteomics and microfluidics-based research projects.
  6. Prepare written reports, documentation, and contribute to scientific publications and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  7. Implement continuous improvement strategies to optimize assay performance, manufacturing processes, and data pipelines.
  8. Provide technical guidance to junior lab members; oversee quality control and assist with lab management tasks such as inventory, sample tracking, and equipment maintenance.
  9. Adhere to health, safety, and regulatory guidelines, maintaining high standards of laboratory practice and data integrity.

Education and experience

  1. Master’s degree in Biological Sciences, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Biomedical Engineering, or a related field.
  2. Minimum of 2 years of research laboratory experience; experience in an academic or biotechnology/industry setting strongly preferred.

Other qualifications

  1. Proficient in proteomics workflows and microfluidic-based biological assays.
  2. Strong background in data management and statistical analysis of biological datasets.
  3. Highly organized, detail-oriented, and capable of managing multiple projects simultaneously.
  4. Able to work independently while fostering collaboration within multidisciplinary research teams.
  5. Excellent written and verbal communication skills for documentation, reporting, and presentations.
  6. Experienced in laboratory information management system (LIMS) documentation.
  7. Skilled in cell culture techniques and preparation of biological materials for downstream assays.
