Research Assistant/Associate Cell Biology

We are a world class research-intensive university. We deliver teaching and learning of the highest quality. We play a leading role in economic, social and cultural development of the North East of England. Attracting and retaining high-calibre people is fundamental to our continued success.

The Role: Your role as a Research Assistant/Associate will be to support project aims on a grant programme designed to better understand cell division errors in mammalian oocytes. You will harvest, culture and apply various imaging and micromanipulation techniques to mouse oocytes. This is fundamental biosciences research with links to understanding infertility. You will help develop novel imaging approaches and a micromanipulation technique that is new to the lab. The role offers an excellent opportunity to be involved in cutting edge method development using state-of-the-art facilities with expert support. You will benefit from tailored mentoring, and work closely with external collaborators. In addition, you will help supervise undergraduate and MRes project students, making this shorter contract an ideal position to gain varied important post-doctoral experience.

Specifically, the project is focused on monitoring a panel of critical regulatory proteins through meiosis I cell division in oocytes, assessing changes in levels and localisation. You will join a vibrant interdisciplinary team of researchers within Newcastle's Cells, Genes and Molecules Theme, presenting work at lab meetings and likely one national conference within the time frame.

This post is full time, fixed term for a period of 10 months or until 31 August 2026 whichever is soonest. For informal enquiries contact: Suzanne.madgwick@newcastle.ac.uk
