Research Assistant - Biological Sciences
Job Summary
The research assistant will be in charge of organizing and maintaining a research laboratory specializing in Drosophila. The technician will be responsible for maintenance of the laboratory and Drosophila stocks. The Assistant will complete Drosophila genetic experiments and supervise undergraduate workers, both paid workers and those seeking credit hours. Work on molecular biology and data analysis is also preferred and training will be provided.
Responsibilities
- Oversee maintenance and husbandry of Drosophila stocks.
- Oversee and maintain lab supplies, lab cleanliness, and care of equipment.
- Supervise and monitor undergraduate students conducting research in the lab.
- In support of experiments, perform DNA cloning and other molecule techniques as required.
- Set up and conduct experiments, collect and analyze data, and report results to the principal investigator.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in chemistry, biology, biochemistry, cell biology or other natural, life, health care or materials science directly related to the research area to which the position is assigned and experience in a research or clinical setting.
OR
Associate's degree from an accredited college or university in chemistry, biology, biochemistry, cell biology or other natural, life, health care or materials science directly related to the research area to which the position is assigned and a minimum of three years experience in a research or clinical setting.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in molecular biology and statistical analyses are preferred.
