Research Assistant (Biological Sciences)
Job Description
The Centre for Nature-based Climate Solutions (CNCS) is seeking a proactive, creative, and mission-driven Communications and Outreach Research Assistant to amplify the Centre’s research and impact. You will lead communications planning and execution, manage digital channels, organise and support broader outreach initiatives that elevate CNCS’s profile locally and globally. This role is ideal for a self-starter who thrives with autonomy, takes ownership, and enjoys translating science into compelling narratives for diverse audiences.
The main responsibilities of the position include:
- Lead the organisation and delivery of outreach events such as conferences, distinguished lectures and seminar series (planning, stakeholder coordination, logistics, comms, post-event reporting).
- Manage and update the CNCS website; maintain researcher profiles, project pages, publications, and news; track basic analytics.
- Develop and execute a science communication and outreach plan aligned with CNCS priorities; translate research into clear, compelling content for diverse audiences.
- Produce written content (articles, briefs, newsletters, social posts) with strong editorial quality.
- Design engaging visuals (infographics, social assets, event collateral) and maintain brand consistency.
- Support operational and administrative tasks related to communications and events.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Science, Environmental Science, Conservation, Sustainability, or Communications, or relevant experience in a relevant field.
Skills:
- Strong command of English; proven ability to translate technical material into accessible narratives.
- A good team player who is independent, demonstrates initiative, takes ownership and proactive in seeking feedback and improvement.
- Graphic design proficiency (eg Adobe Creative Cloud or Canva); familiarity with social media and basic analytics.
- Event planning and stakeholder/vendor coordination experience.
- Passion for the environment and science communication.
Experience:
- With website/CMS management (e.g., WordPress); basic HTML is a plus.
