Job Description

RESEARCH POSITION IN AQUACULTURE R&D UNDER THE NRF CREATE-SFA FUNDED PROGRAM ADMINISTERED BY SHARE

We are inviting applications for Research Assistant position under a multidisciplinary research program funded by the National Research Foundation (NRF) and the Singapore Food Agency (SFA) and administered by the Singapore-HUJ Alliance for Research and Enterprise (SHARE).

The project team brings together Principal Investigators (PIs) from the National University of Singapore (NUS), The Hebrew University of Jerusalem (HUJ), A*STAR, Republic Polytechnic (RP), and Nanyang Technological University (NTU).

Successful candidate will support PIs in the execution of the program and will be based either fully or on a rotational basis at one of the local partner institutions: NUS, A*STAR, RP, NTU, or at the Marine Aquaculture Centre, St John’s Island. The project also involves close partnerships with local fish farms.

We are seeking individuals who are enthusiastic, qualified, and motivated to contribute to impactful research in the fields of aquaculture R&D. The successful candidate will work with Prof Christoph Winkler and Prof Berta Sivan on research work under a project on SINGAPORE AQUACULTURE SOLUTION CENTER.

Research Assistant: Aquaculture Hatchery, Broodstock & Larviculture Operations

  • Support hatchery operations including broodstock husbandry, conditioning, spawning trials, and larval culture activities for marine fish species.
  • Assist with broodstock management, including feeding, tank maintenance, fish handling, and health monitoring.
  • Participate in spawning induction trials, egg collection, fertilisation monitoring, and hatchery documentation.
  • Support larval rearing operations including feeding, monitoring larval survival and development, and maintaining culture systems.
  • Assist with sampling procedures including fish measurements, fin clips, blood sampling, larval sampling, and environmental monitoring.
  • Record spawning performance data including egg quality, fertilisation rates, hatch rates, and larval survival.
  • Monitor water quality parameters and maintain hatchery systems to ensure optimal fish health.
  • Assist researchers in conducting hatchery experiments and implementing broodstock conditioning and larval culture protocols.
  • Maintain accurate records of husbandry, spawning events, and hatchery performance data.
  • Support fieldwork and collaboration with hatchery partners and industry stakeholders.

Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in Aquaculture, Marine Science, Fisheries Science, or related Life Science discipline.

Experience:

  • Experience in hatchery operations, broodstock management, or larval fish culture would be an advantage.
  • Practical experience in fish husbandry, aquaculture systems, or marine fieldwork preferred.
  • Ability to work in hatchery environments and perform hands-on aquaculture operations.
  • Strong organisational and documentation skills.
  • Good communication and teamwork skills.
  • Willingness to work at hatchery or partner farm facilities as required.
  • Candidate will be employed on a contract basis and may be based either fully or partially at partner hatchery facilities.
