Research Assistant - Biology
Job Summary
The research assistant will be in charge of organizing and maintaining a Drosophila laboratory. All husbandry and stock maintenance of the flies will be completed under this position. Assistant will complete Drosophila longevity experiments. This position will be in charge of all ordering and maintenance of the laboratory as well as supervision of undergraduate workers; both paid workers and those seeking credit hours. Work on molecular biology and data analysis is also preferred, and training will be provided.
Responsibilities
The duties include, but are not limited to:
- Drosophila husbandry and maintenance of lifespan experiments.
- Perform general laboratory maintenance and organization.
- Supervise undergraduate researchers
- Molecular biology (RNA and protein work).
- Conduct data analysis.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in chemistry, biology, biochemistry, cell biology, social sciences, natural sciences, life, health care, or materials science directly related to the research area to which the position is assigned and experience in a research or clinical setting. OR Associate's degree from an accredited college or university in chemistry, biology, biochemistry, cell biology, social sciences, natural sciences, life, health care, or materials science directly related to the research area to which the position is assigned and a minimum of three years' experience in a research or clinical area.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in molecular biology and statistical analyses is preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Proficient in Microsoft Office and other computer software/databases. Basic understanding of laboratory techniques. Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills. Detail-oriented with strong organizational and critical thinking skills. Ability to maintain confidentiality. Ability to use sound judgement and work independently.
Shift/Salary/Benefits
Shift: Days; Monday - Friday (Work outside of normal business hours may be required). Salary Range: $17.88-$17.95 per hour. Pay Band: B5 Salary to be commensurate with qualifications of the selected candidate within the established range (generally minimum-midpoint) of the position. Recruitment Period: Until Filled.
