Welcome to the Department of Cellular, Molecular and Genetic
Medicine (CMGM). The laboratory of Swati Deb is seeking a research
assistant interested in working and gaining experience in the area
of Molecular Biology of Cancer. We are proud to provide research
and learning environment that is moderate in size, not too big and
not too small, with an atmosphere that is conducive to one-on-one
interactions among all members of the laboratory and Massey Cancer
Center including basic and clinical scientists. With
state-of-the-art facilities and instrumentation, our faculty,
students and trainees are equipped to perform world-class research
and robust, comprehensive educational opportunities.
Position Responsibilities:
- Perform assigned research work as well as routine tasks in a
research environment
Assist in performing assigned laboratory tasks without constant
supervision
Assist staff in laboratory work
Clean and stock supplies to laboratories, clean glassware,
maintain inventory, perform assays, set up and conduct
experiments
Must be able to organize work, collect and analyze data, make
calculations, prepare reports, keep records, and make independent
decisions
Ability to complete assigned special projects with minimal
supervision
Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications
- Higher education degree in one of the relevant scientific
fields such as Biochemistry, Cell Biology, Molecular Biology,
Biology, Genetics, Immunology, Microbiology, etc. Relevant
coursework as well as knowledge of lab equipment and
procedures
- Demonstrated ability to work in and foster an environment of
respect, professionalism and civility with a population of faculty,
staff, and students from all backgrounds and experiences, or a
commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU

employment is dependent upon project need, availability of funding,
