Interview Date: Thursday 02 April 2026

We are looking for a research assistant to work on a study to co-develop and evaluate a psychoeducational support package for teenagers and young adults managing food allergy as they transition to further or higher education or the workplace. Food allergy has a significant impact on mental health and quality of life, due to the fear of a severe or fatal allergic reaction. This impact can be felt more strongly at key times, such as transition away from parental support or when learning to manage food allergy in a new environment. Adolescents and young adults are most at risk of serious or fatal allergic reactions, which often occur away from home. There is very little research conducted in this age group in relation to their needs and much of the support available is aimed at younger children. We are looking for a research assistant to work collaboratively with the research team to explore the needs of young adults as they transition to further or higher education or the workplace. Main duties will involve study set-up, running of interviews and focus groups with adolescents and young people, and analysis of data to inform the development of intervention materials.

We are looking for someone with a psychology degree and a postgraduate qualification in health psychology or a similar field. You will need to have experience in initiating and conducting research, undertaking qualitative and quantitative data analysis and interpreting results, writing reports and delivering presentations. You will need to be able to work effectively in a team and have excellent verbal and written communication skills, organisational, timekeeping and report writing skills. The post is funded by The Natasha Allergy Research Foundation, and the post-holder will work collaboratively on the project with the Foundation, under the supervision of Professor Rebecca Knibb.

For informal enquiries, please contact Professor Rebecca Knibb at r.knibb@aston.ac.uk
