About the role

The Department of Education, within the School of Education and Social Work, has been commissioned to conduct an evaluation of the work and impact of the Network of International Women for Brighton and Hove (NIWBH). NIWBH is a volunteer-led charity which aims to reduce social isolation and increase opportunities for community integration for vulnerable women, particularly those who have experienced war, persecution and personal violence and have additional language barriers to overcome, alongside insecure immigration status. The evaluation will work closely with the NIWBH to establish and embed appropriate measures and systems for evaluating NIWBH activities in an ongoing and sustainable way. The evaluation is guided by the following objectives:

  1. Support the capacity building of the NIWBH to enable it to better capture, evaluate, and learn from its work across the range of activities.
  2. Produce a final evaluation report which identifies the value of the Network, its impact on the lives of women and the city, and any lessons from NIWBH which might be applicable by other organisations, Brighton and Hove City Council and other Local Authorities.

About you

We are looking to appoint a part-time Research Assistant to work with Prof. Linda Morrice and Dr. Synne Dyvik at the University of Sussex, and a small Advisory Group from the NIWBH. You will be responsible for working with the NIWBH administrator, volunteers and case workers to establish appropriate processes to enable ongoing monitoring and evaluation of each strand of activity using both paper records and new Customer Relations Management (CRM) platform.

You will work with the Advisory Group and a small panel of experts by lived experience to develop and pilot outcome indicators and conduct qualitive research with a group of women and key referral agencies. You will triangulate these data collected through interviews/focus groups with some basic quantitative data collected by the Network. Findings from the evaluation will be written up in a report which will identify the value of the NIWBH in terms of its impact on the lives of women and its contribution to social cohesion in the city.
