Job Description

Tropical Marine Science Institute (TMSI) is looking to hire a new research assistant under the project: Monitoring Harmful Algal Blooms and Bloom-Forming Species using Imaging and Molecular Techniques

Duties and responsibilities:

• Operation of linear flow imaging system in the lab
  • Data collection, processing and organization
  • Manual image annotation
  • Neural network-based classification, including the generation of synthetic data (e.g., using Stable Diffusion XL) and fine-tuning models
• Regular field trips onboard a research vessel (may extend outside conventional office hours)
  • Water profiling using multiparameter optical sensors
  • Water collection for quality analysis
• Other lab-based work
  • Water filtration for molecular analysis
  • Chemical analysis

Qualifications

• Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or equivalent
• Degree in Marine Science, Science or equivalent
• Good written and verbal communication skills in English
• Proficient in MATLAB
• Familiarity with Python and PyTorch is an advantage
