Research Assistant (Hannon Group) (Fixed Term)

Research Assistant (Hannon Group) (Fixed Term)

The Hannon lab, at the CRUK Cambridge Institute, is looking for a highly motivated research assistant to support the work of the tumour heterogeneity team. The team seeks to understand how heterogeneity influences response to therapy and metastatic dissemination in cancer utilising cutting edge technologies. The team has a particular interest in developing new technologies to answer critical questions in cancer biology.Relevant to the current vacancy, the post holder will contribute to a project that seeks to understand how exposure to hypoxia (low oxygen) endows tumour cells with aggressive features such metastatic potential and therapy resistance. As part of this project, the successful candidate will be involved in the optimisation of CRISPR screens and will utilise a variety of molecular and cell biology techniques such as molecular cloning, tumour cell culture, lentivirus production and transduction, flow cytometry, DNA extraction and PCR. Based on interest levels, there will also be scope for the successful applicant to learn, and contribute to, computational analyses of genomic datasets.

The successful candidate will support specific projects as well as generally supporting the team through everyday lab activities. The role holder is expected to be enthusiastic, attentive and display a strong desire to learn from more senior members of the team. A BSc, MSc or equivalent in a relevant discipline and hands on lab experience (e.g. final year project) are essential. Experience with, or exposure to, molecular biology techniques and cell culture are desirable but not essential as training will be provided in all areas regardless of experience.

Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available until 1 June 2026 in the first instance.
