Research Assistant, Hoxworth Blood Center, Nayak Laboratory
Job Overview
The Division of Research at Hoxworth Blood Center is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented, full-time (100% FTE), Research Assistant to join our Basic Research Laboratory under the supervision of Dr. Ramesh Nayak. The successful candidate will assist with the coordination of research focused on hematopoietic stem cells and progenitors biology (HSC/Ps); the transformation and development of acute leukemia in transgenic murine models and human patient derived xenograft (PDX) models; hematopoietic cell regeneration; and modeling of hematopoietic disorder(s) using induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs). The candidate will assist in the execution of basic molecular, biochemical and cell biological experiments.
Essential Functions
Perform experiments and record data according to research protocols. Interpret data and assist in judging validity of data. May perform statistical and graphical analysis of data. May assist in animal colony management and animal husbandry. Apply research principals for less complex assignments. Perform related duties based on departmental need. Required Education
Bachelor’s Degree. Four (4) years of relevant work experience and/or other specialized training can be used in lieu of education requirement.
Required Experience
Additional related work experience may be required depending on field or discipline.
Additional Qualifications Considered
Applicants with previous experience in immunostaining and flow cytometry, mouse colony management and genotyping, basic molecular cell biological techniques including PCR, cell culture, generation of retroviruses and lentiviruses, protein quantification assay, SDS-PAGE and western blot are encouraged to apply.
