Offer Description
Transilvania University of Brașov is recruiting a Research Assistant in Ecology and Environmental Protection for the research project “Center of Excellence in Water Management, Materials, By-products and Waste Valorisation for Circular Bioeconomy Implementation” (CERSUS), contract No. 6 CoEx/2026.
The position is full-time (8 hours/day) and offered for a fixed term of 3 years, from 1 October 2026 to 30 September 2029.
The successful candidate will contribute to research activities related to environmental protection and water management, including physicochemical analysis of wastewater; identification and quantitative determination of organic pollutants using High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC); and Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) to evaluate environmental impacts in accordance with ISO 14040 and ISO 14044.
The position offers the opportunity to work within a multidisciplinary research environment and contribute to the development of sustainable solutions for water management, materials, by-products, and waste valorization within the circular bioeconomy framework.

Skills/Qualifications
- Basic knowledge of Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) and environmental impact assessment.
- Knowledge of physicochemical analysis of wastewater, including COD, TOC, TN, pH and conductivity.
- Knowledge of High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC), including qualitative and quantitative determination of organic pollutants.
- Understanding of environmental pollution and water quality assessment.
- Knowledge of LCA methodology according to ISO 14040 and ISO 14044.
- Ability to collect, analyse and interpret experimental data.
- Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary research team.
- Good scientific communication and organizational skills.
- Experience with openLCA, SimaPro or GaBi is considered an advantage.
Specific Requirements
- Hold a Bachelor's degree in Environmental Engineering, Chemistry or Chemical Engineering.
- Hold a Master's degree in Environmental Engineering, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related field relevant to the project.
- Be currently enrolled as a PhD student in Environmental Engineering, Chemistry or Chemical Engineering.
- Have basic knowledge of Life Cycle Assessment (LCA).
- Knowledge of Romanian, both written and spoken, is required.
- Experience with openLCA, SimaPro or GaBi software is considered an advantage.

Eligibility criteria
- Bachelor's degree in Environmental Engineering, Chemistry or Chemical Engineering.
- Master's degree in Environmental Engineering, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related field relevant to the project.
- Current enrolment as a PhD student in Environmental Engineering, Chemistry or Chemical Engineering.
- Knowledge of Romanian, both written and spoken.
- Full legal capacity and fulfilment of the general employment conditions applicable under Romanian legislation.
- No previous professional experience is required.
Selection process
The selection process consists of:
- Eligibility and application file screening – 10 September 2026.
- Practical examination – 15 September 2026, 10:00–12:00.
- Interview – 18 September 2026, starting at 10:00.
Each examination stage is eliminatory. Candidates must obtain a minimum score of 50 points at each examination stage.
The final results will be published on 24 September 2026.
The practical examination and interview will take place at Transilvania University of Brașov, 1 Universității Street, Building F, Room FI14, Brașov, Romania.
