Research Assistant in Ecology

ABOUT THE ROLE

The post holder will support the delivery of a new UKRI Natural Environment Research Council project entitled: ‘Understanding how land-use-climate interactions restructure terrestrial biodiversity to develop a new generation of global biodiversity models’, commencing in early Autumn 2025.

This Research Project is being delivered within the fast-growing School of Geography and Natural Sciences, within the Faculty of Science and Environment at Northumbria University. Home to a number of successful research clusters around the natural environment theme, including the Ecology, Conservation & Society Research Group, the School also spans the spectrum of geographical and environmental research, offering superb opportunities for working across disciplines.

This is a fixed term position for 27 months.

ABOUT THE TEAM

The post holder will be supervised by Dr Andrew Suggitt, Assistant Professor in Ecology, and Co-Investigator for the research project. The role forms part of a wider project team of leading scientists based at University College London (Principal Investigator: Prof Tim Newbold) and Durham University (Co-Investigator: Dr Rebecca Senior) working to address the biodiversity and climate crises. The project has been specifically designed to facilitate a high level of collaboration between the research team at all institutions, sharing knowledge, expertise, data, and findings.

ABOUT YOU

Applicants should hold a PhD in Ecology or allied discipline, and have demonstrable knowledge of global change, microclimates, and ecological or statistical modelling.

If you would like an informal discussion about the role, please contact Dr Andrew Suggitt at andrew.suggitt@northumbria.ac.uk.
