The Middle East Institute (MEI) is looking for outstanding researchers for the position of Research Assistant. As a Singapore-based research institute, MEI is well-positioned between the Middle East and East Asia. We seek researchers with in-depth knowledge of the Middle East and understanding of Northeast or Southeast Asia, particularly in areas such as global and geopolitical dynamics including energy, China, Iran, and Turkey, and economies of the Gulf states along with their social, religious, and cultural reforms.

Job Description

Research Assistants work under the supervision of the Director and Deputy Director. Duties include participating in current cluster projects, leading a project, assisting with organizing workshops and conferences, participating in outreach activities, and contributing to academic research via peer-reviewed journals, books, and chapters.

Contributors are expected to engage in institute activities, produce at least three in-house publications, write detailed analyses of current events, edit papers for quarterly publications, provide short commentaries for social media, and accept media requests for commentary.

Requirements

Candidates must have completed a Bachelor's or Master's Degree from a reputable university. Knowledge of at least one Middle Eastern language is an advantage.

Terms of Appointment

The appointment is for two years. A fixed monthly salary is provided, which is all-inclusive for housing and living expenses. Housing is not provided; candidates must arrange their own.
