Hours: Full Time (37.5 hours per week) 

About the role

We are seeking to appoint a Research Assistant to join the laboratory of Professor Dame Amanda Fisher, who will have the responsibility for the provision of research support to investigate how specific epigenetic modifiers alter mitotic chromosome structure. This role will assist in generating and characterising cell lines in which individual chromosomes can be purified using telomere-specific molecular tags. The Research Assistant will work with members of the team to determine the properties of chromosomes that have or lack DNA methylation and determine the impact DNA methylation for mitotic bookmarking.

This full-time fixed-term post is funded by the John Fell Fund and Nuffield Foundation for up to 12 months in the first instance.

The actual starting salary offered will be based on qualifications and relevant skills acquired and will also be determined by the funding available.  

About you 

You will hold a Master’s degree with experience in chromosome biology and be working toward a doctorate in a relevant discipline. You should possess strong specialist knowledge in epigenetics, be capable of managing your own research and administrative tasks, and have excellent communication skills for writing, presenting, and representing the research group. Experience in adapting protocols and selecting experimental methods is essential. Desirable attributes include contributions to publications, prior work in epigenetic research teams, and knowledge of flow cytometry, DNA methylation, gene regulation mechanisms, and mitotic bookmarking.
