The opportunity
As a research assistant, you will play a vital role in creating a next-generation intrusion detection and prevention system for Wi-Fi networks. This includes using access points and other Wi-Fi enabled devices, investigating its integration into a range of Linux-based embedded systems, creating new security features, liaising with the project partner, and performing field trials.
About you
We’re seeking a motivated and highly capable researcher with a strong background in wireless networks and embedded systems to join the Advanced Network Research Group (ANRG). You will be working with an industrial partner to evaluate next-generation intrusion detection and prevention systems for Wi-Fi networks. This role would be suitable for an individual looking to gain valuable experience in wireless networks and their security. You will be an enthusiastic problem solver with a desire to improve cybersecurity outcomes and a drive to build on your skill set to contribute to research. We encourage applications from recent graduates, researchers or professionals with skills in wireless networks, Linux-based embedded systems and software development (embedded C/C++ or Rust).
You will have;
- Proven experience with wireless network-based projects, particularly Wi-Fi networks
- Proficiency in software development with excellent experience in using embedded C/C++ or Rust.
- Must be able to demonstrate an appreciation and understanding of wireless network communications and their security.
- Good first degree (minimum 2:1 honours (or equivalent) in computer science or electrical engineering/electronics or relevant professional experience.
- Strong organisational skills, with excellent time management and a proactive, detail-oriented approach to the work of the role.
- Able to work independently and as part of a team, as well as liaise with the industrial partner.
