Job Description

The Neurobiology Research Programme at the Life Sciences Institute (LSI), National University of Singapore, invites applications for a Research Assistant to support research on the molecular mechanisms underlying human neurodegenerative diseases. The successful candidate will join a multidisciplinary research environment led by Professor Rickie Patani, focusing on understanding the cellular and molecular drivers of neurodegeneration and the biology of RNA processing in neurological disease.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct molecular and cellular biology experiments investigating mechanisms of neurodegeneration.
  • Assist in studies examining RNA processing mechanisms, including intron retention, in neuronal health and disease.
  • Perform experiments using human stem cell-derived neuronal models and other cellular systems.
  • Support experimental work related to neuronal cell biology, including cell culture, molecular assays, and imaging.
  • Assist with the development and maintenance of experimental models relevant to neurodegenerative diseases.
  • Collect, analyze, and interpret experimental data using appropriate statistical and bioinformatics tools.
  • Maintain accurate laboratory records and ensure compliance with laboratory safety and research protocols.
  • Contribute to preparation of research reports, publications, and grant applications.
  • Assist in general laboratory management, including ordering reagents, maintaining equipment, and coordinating shared resources.
  • Collaborate with researchers across the Neurobiology Programme and affiliated research groups within NUS.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Neuroscience, Molecular Biology, Life Sciences, Biochemistry, or related disciplines.
  • Prior laboratory experience in molecular or cellular biology techniques is preferred.
  • Experience in any of the following areas will be advantageous:
    1. RNA biology or transcriptomics
    2. Stem cell culture or neuronal differentiation
    3. Neurodegenerative disease models
    4. Imaging or bioinformatics analysis
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills with attention to detail.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a multidisciplinary research environment.
  • Good communication skills and willingness to contribute to scientific publications.
