Research Assistant (LKYSPP) (31016)

Job Description

We are looking for a full-time research assistant/associate to assist Vice Dean Academic Affairs in her research projects at the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy. The candidate will oversee day-to-day activities and the general management of assigned research projects. These responsibilities include:

  • Conduct independent research and write academic and policy papers and reports
  • Conduct literature reviews on research topics, integrate literature to propose research ideas and hypotheses
  • Compile and archive research materials
  • Data collection in the field, external databases and online if necessary
  • Cleaning and merging datasets (using R, Python, Stata or SPSS)
  • Note-taking, copy-editing and proof reading
  • Scheduling meetings related to external parties that are relevant to the research projects
  • Organize academic workshops if needed
  • Assisting with research presentations in academic affairs and LKYSPP
  • Other administrative duties related to research projects

Qualifications

Job Requirements:

  • Minimum Bachelor’s degree in discipline within the social sciences but Master's degree is preferred
  • Interest in public policy/public affairs education, curriculum and learning frameworks is a plus
  • Strong analytical ability and self-motivation
  • Demonstrated experience or training in conducting social science research, including designing and conducting surveys
  • Mastery of word and excel programmes
  • Able to use statistical software to analyze and organize data
  • Responsible and detail oriented
  • Quick in learning and creative in providing solutions
  • Independent, self-starter with initiative and commitment
  • Excellent spoken and written English for business communication and report writing
  • Required to access, read and summarize resources in Indonesian language for one of the projects, including Indonesian language newspapers and primary documents
  • A collegial and amicable personality
  • Enjoys working alone but can also work well in teams
  • A strong interest in conducting social science research is a plus

The candidate is required to be physically present at NUS office during the stipulated onsite working hours from Monday to Friday. Software and tools required for data analysis will be made available.

The earliest start date of the appointment is 15 December 2025. Appointments will be on a term contract of one year, and renewable when necessary. Salary will commensurate with the candidate's qualifications, track record, potential and experience.
