Research Assistant- MCG Neuroscience and Regenerative Medicine
Job Summary
This position will perform studies on Alzheimer's disease, neuropsychiatric disorders, and the microbiome using transgenic mouse models in Seo laboratory (https://sites.google.com/view/the-seo-laboratory). Feeding special diets, administrating pharmacological drugs to mice, weighting mice, performing animal behavior tests. Performing a standardized protocol collecting mouse specimens including brain and other peripheral organs, preparing these samples for histology and molecular/biochemical analysis. Participate in research data collection and documentation within relevant guidelines/protocols and publish results in scientific journals. Perform molecular biology/biochemical experiments, minor surgical, microscopic, and statistical/computational analyses. Executes sample processing by microtome/cryostat sectioning. Maintain mouse breeding colonies, observe animals daily for clinical or behavioral signs of illness and provide treatments as directed by veterinary staff. Assures compliance with established safety procedures and maintains required documentation on laboratory and specimen inventory. Performs data entry and maintains data files on research. Develop and evaluate new research techniques and procedures. Performs other duties as assigned.
Responsibilities
- Plan experiments independently and develop research protocols while ensuring adherence to accepted scientific research principles and compliance with relevant federal guidelines.
- Perform studies on Alzheimer's disease, neuropsychiatric disorders, and the microbiome using transgenic mouse models. Feeding special diets, administrating pharmacological drugs to mice, weighting mice. Performing animal behavior tests.
- Observe animals daily for clinical or behavioral signs of illness and provide treatments as directed by veterinary staff. Maintain mouse breeding colonies including genotyping, sacrificing animals, and collecting tissues.
- Perform molecular biology/biochemical experiments, minor surgical, microscopic, and statistical/computational analyses. Executes sample processing by microtome/cryostat sectioning.
- Participate in research data collection and documentation within relevant guidelines and protocols; publish results in scientific journals. Assures compliance with established safety procedures and maintains required documentation on laboratory and specimen inventory. Develop and evaluate new research techniques and procedures.
- Perform all other job-related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in chemistry, biology, biochemistry, cell biology, social sciences, natural sciences, life, health care, or materials science directly related to the research area to which the position is assigned and experience in a research or clinical setting. OR Associate's degree from an accredited college or university in chemistry, biology, biochemistry, cell biology, social sciences, natural sciences, life, health care, or materials science directly related to the research area to which the position is assigned and a minimum of three years of experience in a research or clinical area.

Shift/Salary/Benefits
Shift: Days; Monday - Friday
Pay Band: B5
Salary to be commensurate with qualifications of the selected candidate within the established range (generally minimum-midpoint) of the position.
