The Center for Language Education (CLE) at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) is committed to becoming an international leader in language education through innovative program design, cutting-edge technology, and scholarship of teaching and learning. The CLE teaches required and elective courses in English, Chinese and 3rd Languages to over 6,000 undergraduate and postgraduate students each semester.
The Center is looking for an experienced tech-savvy Research Assistant to lead and/or support the development and implementation of collaborative, cross-institutional projects integrating innovative technologies and AI. This role will require strong IT skills and expertise, and experience in project and platform development.
Major duties of the appointee include
- Playing a key role in the technical development, implementation, and maintenance of project systems and solutions, working closely with vendors and internal IT teams.
- Conducting system testing, creating and executing test plans, and troubleshooting technical issues to ensure optimal functionality and performance of project digital tools and resources.
- Managing and updating project-related resources using content management systems (CMS), ensuring accessibility, usability, and alignment with technical standards.
- Leading the integration and deployment of innovative technologies, including AI-powered tools and applications, to support project goals.
- Providing support for project-related events, including setting up and managing IT systems for virtual and in-person workshops, competitions, and feedback sessions.
- Using web analytics tools to monitor the performance of IT systems, track user engagement and prepare reports with actionable recommendations for system improvements.
- Ensuring effective collaboration with project stakeholders, including educators, students, and industry partners, to align technical solutions with project needs.
- Contributing to broader IT activities including system upgrades, troubleshooting, data security, and technical support.
Applicants should possess a bachelor’s degree or above in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, along with proven experience in project coordination, preferably in edtech, IT, or multi-stakeholder initiatives. They should have experience in system testing, including the ability to create and implement test plans, and demonstrate high proficiency and hands-on experience with CMS administration (e.g., WordPress, Drupal) and familiarity with web analytics tools. A proven track record in vendor management and technical troubleshooting is highly desirable. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, project management tools, and basic UX/UI awareness is required, along with strong knowledge of AI tools, e-learning platforms, or oral communication training. The ideal candidate will also possess excellent problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills. (Duration: 1 year, with the possibility of extension)
Starting salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Fringe benefits including annual leave, medical and dental benefits will be provided.
