Professor Bertram Emil SHI is leading a research project titled “Frontier and Human-centric AI and Robotics Technology for Geriatric Care” funded by the Research Grants Council of the University Grants Committee. The project aims to improve elder individuals’ mental and physical care by developing human-centric frontier artificial intelligence and robotics technology, which will empower both the elderly themselves and their carers to manage health and address frailty. The project team consists of faculties from HKUST, CUHK and HKU and five research thrusts listed below: (1) Human-centric benchmarking, (2) Trustworthy generative AI; (3) Robotics and embodied AI; (4) Sustainability; and (5) Human robot interaction.
The appointee will assist the Deputy Program Co-ordinator (Professor Stuart GIETEL-BASTEN) in various tasks, including:
- Performing interviews in English and Cantonese with stakeholders (including older persons, care home staff, nurses) regarding their attitudes towards technology;
- Transcribing (manually and automatically) interviews and performing basic analysis; and
- Co-ordinating and offering advice and support to student helpers working on interviews.
Applicants should have at least a bachelor’s degree, preferably in social science, social work, gerontology or other related disciplines, with at least 1 year’s hands-on experience in either interviewing or in social research projects preferred. A good command of both written and spoken English and Chinese (including Cantonese and Putonghua) are required. The successful candidate is expected to be detail-oriented and accurate with strong multitasking abilities, time management skills, organizational skills and communication skills. Candidates should explicitly state their experience in interviewing/qualitative research in their applications. (Duration: 6 months, renewable)
Starting salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Fringe benefits including paid leave and medical benefits will be provided.
