The Signature Research Programme in Emerging Infectious Diseases ("EID") aims to pioneer our understanding of emerging infections through world-class research that integrates immunology, infection biology, pathogen genomics, and computational approaches. This integration drives comprehensive studies of host–pathogen interactions across molecular, individual, and population scales to address emerging health challenges.

The laboratory of Immunotherapy in HBV Infection within the EID Programme, led by Professor Antonio Bertoletti, studies immune responses to Hepatitis B (HBV) and is at the forefront in developing T-cell receptor (TCR) cell therapy against hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Furthermore, under the supervision of Assistant Professor Nina Le Bert, the laboratory is actively involved in characterizing antigen-specific T cell responses in viral infections such as HBV, influenza, paramyxoviruses, SARS-CoV2 and other emerging viral diseases.

A Research Assistant position is available, and the successful candidate will be closely involved in collaborative project work between hospitals/industries and the laboratory. The duties and responsibilities include the following:

  • Perform tasks and support the team in scientific projects.
  • Perform T cell functional assays such as ELISpot, cell staining, and flow cytometry.
  • Process peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) from clinical samples and maintain primary T cells in culture.
  • Maintain meticulous records of processed and stored clinical samples required for projects.
  • Conduct accurate monitoring, documenting, and reporting of experimental results and/or research findings.
  • Perform other duties required to support the organization of the laboratory, including but not limited to purchasing, stock-taking, inventory, and compliance with safety and ethical regulations.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in Life Sciences, Biological Sciences.
  • Candidates with a Diploma may also be considered for a Laboratory Technologist position.
  • Prior experience in a T cell laboratory or immunology laboratory and/or in using human samples, including handling and processing of clinical samples such as blood and/or tissue would be advantageous.
  • Possess good tissue culture techniques and familiarity with cell isolation techniques would be advantageous.
  • A team player who is able to prioritise, multi-task and work collaboratively in a diverse workforce.
