Job Summary
The Research Technician will provide technical assistance to the mouse and cryo-electron microscopy projects in the Chen lab at Caltech.
Essential Job Duties
- Manage mouse colonies for the lab and receive training for basic surgery operations (e.g., removing specific tissues).
- Basic biochemistry and cell biology analyses of tissues and isolated cells.
- Assist cryoEM experiments.
- Assist lab members with their mouse experiments.
- Place orders for lab purchases and assist with lab procedures, i.e., set up equipment, prepare samples, specimens, solutions, reagents, cultures, etc.
- Diagnose and notify Principal Investigator and/or research personnel of any problems and/or issues related to equipment, research, etc.
- Apply advanced knowledge of laboratory and/or equipment cleaning products to assist personnel with multiple laboratory equipment to be cleaned or repaired.
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Biology or equivalent degree in related field with at least one year of relevant experience.
- Must have hands-on wet lab experience. Preferably mouse experiment experience. CryoEM experience not required.
- Must understand basic workflow and operations of laboratory research processes.
- Must be diligent and responsible for their own work.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience in mouse breeding and basic surgery.
- Prior experience in cryo-electron microscopy is a plus.

Hiring Range
$19.00 - $25.75 Per Hour
The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.
