Job Summary

The Research Technician will provide technical assistance to the mouse and cryo-electron microscopy projects in the Chen lab at Caltech.

Essential Job Duties

• Manage mouse colonies for the lab and receive training for basic surgery operations (e.g., removing specific tissues).
• Basic biochemistry and cell biology analyses of tissues and isolated cells.
• Assist cryoEM experiments.
• Assist lab members with their mouse experiments.
• Place orders for lab purchases and assist with lab procedures, i.e., set up equipment, prepare samples, specimens, solutions, reagents, cultures, etc.
• Diagnose and notify Principal Investigator and/or research personnel of any problems and/or issues related to equipment, research, etc.
• Apply advanced knowledge of laboratory and/or equipment cleaning products to assist personnel with multiple laboratory equipment to be cleaned or repaired.

Basic Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Biology or equivalent degree in related field with at least one year of relevant experience.
• Must have hands-on wet lab experience. Preferably mouse experiment experience. CryoEM experience not required.
• Must understand basic workflow and operations of laboratory research processes.
• Must be diligent and responsible for their own work.

Preferred Qualifications

• Prior experience in mouse breeding and basic surgery.
• Prior experience in cryo-electron microscopy is a plus.
