Research Assistant (Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences)
Job Description
The laboratory of Professor Giorgia Pastorin at the National University of Singapore (NUS) is currently recruiting a Research Assistant.
We are seeking a highly motivated researcher to successfully execute the experimental plan under the Central Gap Fund project. The Research Assistant must demonstrate a strong foundation in organic and medicinal chemistry, with proven ability in synthetic methodologies for aromatic amine derivatives and proficiency in analytical characterization techniques such as NMR, HPLC, and LC-MS. Expertise in formulation science is also important to develop and optimize gels and creams, ensuring stability and performance through physicochemical evaluations.
The role demands familiarity with skin permeation studies, including the use of Franz diffusion cells and handling of ex vivo skin models. Competence in genotoxicity and toxicology assays—such as Ames, micronucleus, and chromosomal aberration tests—is relevant for assessing safety profiles. Additionally, the candidate should be adept in scanning electron microscopy (SEM) for hair damage analysis and colorimetric measurements to evaluate dye deposition and persistence.
Strong data analysis and documentation skills are required to interpret experimental results and prepare comprehensive technical reports for regulatory submissions. The position also calls for meticulous attention to laboratory safety protocols.
Key Responsibilities include:
- Manage and coordinate collaborative research initiatives locally and internationally.
- Analyze and interpret research data, ensuring scientific rigor and reproducibility.
- Prepare reports and presentations.
- Uphold research integrity and ensure compliance with safety and ethical standards.
- Contribute to strategic planning and development of the lab’s research direction.
Qualifications
Qualifications / Discipline: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Chemistry.
Skills:
- Proven ability to synthetize and purify chemical compounds (3-4 step syntheses), formulation development, skin permeation studies, cell work, and report preparation.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
Experience: Hands-on synthesis experience, analytical skills, familiarity with formulation science and cell culture.
Attributes: Self-motivated, organized, meticulous, efficient, and adaptable.
