Research Assistant (Physics/Engineering /Nuclear Safety Research)
Job Description
The candidate scope of work includes the following main areas of responsibility:
- Perform both steady-state and accident radiological source term evaluations of different event scenarios for high-temperature gas-cooled reactor (HTGRs)
- Participate in the development and validation of computational models and tools used in source term analysis
- Study and model the effects of particulate matter on fission product transport behaviour
- Develop models to evaluate fission product lift-off, plate-out and circulating coolant activities within the primary circuit
- Assist in the analysis of fission product release from kernels and transport through fuel coatings in defective particles for accident scenarios
- Support post-processing and data interpretation to inform safety case development and risk quantification
- Collaborate on the development of an in-house integrated multi-scale source term analysis framework for HTGRs
- Document results and provide technical inputs to related projects and cross-functional teams
- Prepare technical reports and presentations for agencies and industrial partners
Qualifications
• Minimally BEng / MEng in nuclear engineering or a related field or demonstrated experience in radiological source term analysis |
• Experience in Python or C++ for model development |
• Experience with codes such as MELCOR or STACY would be highly considered |
• Ability to initiate collaborative research in a multidisciplinary team |
• Able to conduct innovative research |
• Good team player, enthusiastic and good communication skills |
