DEPARTMENT OF COMPUTING
Research Assistant Professor in AI and Digital Transformation for Education (three posts) (Ref. 260226006)
The Institute for Higher Education Research and Development (IHERD), in collaboration with the Department of Computing, invites applications for the positions, which offer an exciting opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge research and practice in the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) into higher education. The appointee will play a key role in advancing PolyU’s strategic initiatives in digital transformation, teaching innovation and AI-enabled learning.
Key research areas are:
- AI applications in education
- AI and big data learning analytics
- Generative AI for teaching and assessment innovation
- Digital education technology platforms
- Data-driven educational reform and policy design
- Human-AI collaboration in pedagogy and institutional capacity building
Duties
Working closely with the IHERD management team, the appointees will be required to:
- (a) conduct independent and collaborative research on AI development and its application in education;
- (b) contribute to the design and implementation of digital teaching transformation initiatives across the University;
- (c) develop and deliver training courses for academic, professional staff and students to enhance institutional readiness in AI-enhanced education;
- (d) participate in the development of AI-enabled platforms, tools and policies that support teaching innovation;
- (e) engage in publication, grant application and cross-disciplinary collaboration;
- (f) supervise research staff and postgraduate students, where appropriate; and
- (g) perform any other duties as assigned by the Director of IHERD or his/her delegates.
Qualifications
Applicants should have:
- (a) a PhD degree in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Educational Psychology/Technology, Neuroscience, Human-Computer Interaction or a related discipline with at least two years of postdoctoral research experience;
- (b) a solid research portfolio with evidence of high-quality publications or impactful projects in AI and education;
- (c) experience or demonstrable interest in teaching, instructional design, or digital education reform;
- (d) proven ability to develop and deliver training or faculty development programmes; and
- (e) excellent communication skills with high proficiency in written and spoken English, and the ability to work collaboratively across disciplines.
Conditions of Service
A highly competitive package including a medical benefits plan and a gratuity payable upon completion of the term which is normally for two to three years initially, with possibility of extension.
