Research Assistant/ Research Associate (CARE/AD)

Job Description

Are you passionate about making ageing research meaningful — research that reaches communities, informs policy, and genuinely improves lives? If so, we’d love to hear from you. The Centre for Ageing Research and Education (CARE) is an academic research centre based in Duke-NUS Medical School. We bring together interdisciplinary expertise spanning public health, demography, anthropology, sociology, epidemiology and psychology, to conduct community-engaged research on the determinants of healthy ageing.

CARE is a vibrant, inclusive workplace made up of people from diverse academic and personal backgrounds who share a commitment to rigorous, community-centred research. We are looking for a Research Assistant or Research Associate with experience and genuine interest in qualitative research to join our dynamic team. Our current projects explore themes at the heart of ageing today: loneliness and social isolation, health equity, social inclusion, community empowerment, intergenerational design, climate and age-friendly environments, formal and informal care work, and heritage-based interventions.

You will contribute across a range of research activities, including but not limited to

  • Analysis and knowledge translation: Code and analyse qualitative data, and turning findings into compelling visuals, narratives, and accessible outputs for stakeholders
  • Writing and dissemination: Draft research reports, policy briefs and manuscripts for academic publication and public audiences
  • Project coordination: keeping projects on track — Manage timelines, expenses, IRB approvals, data collection, transcription, procurement, and relationships with stakeholders and community partners
  • Fieldwork and Data Collection: Conduct in-depth interviews, moderate focus group discussions, and facilitate co-design workshops with diverse communities
  • Support CARE’s broader initiatives and events

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree (Research Assistant) /Master’s Degree (Research Associate), or equivalent, in the social sciences or public health — including but not limited to Sociology, Anthropology, Social Work, Public Health, or Nursing
  • Experience in conducting independent qualitative analysis, drafting and publishing research reports and academic manuscripts with minimal supervision
  • Strong sense of ethical responsibility and cultural sensitivity when working with older adults and/or vulnerable populations
  • Familiar with local ageing, health, and/or social policy contexts in Singapore
  • Possess genuine interest in conducting both evaluation and exploratory research that shapes policies and programmes relevant to population ageing
  • Commit to strengthening qualitative research capabilities in the ageing and healthcare sector
  • Possess excellent Powerpoint skills and track record of academic publication will be an advantage

To apply, please submit the following

  1. Cover letter (telling us why this role and CARE’s work resonates with you)
  2. Curriculum Vitae
  3. Referee letter from a reporting manager or supervisor
  4. Two references
  5. A writing sample of approximately 3,000 words (this could be a report, essay, research paper, or other professional writing)

We appreciate every application and will be in touch with shortlisted candidates. We regret that only shortlisted candidates will be notified.
