  • Employment Type: Full - time (35 hours a week)
  • Duration: 12 months, Fixed Term contract
  • Remuneration: $88,717-$100,386 base, plus 17% superannuation and leave loading
  • Work rights required: Visa sponsorship is not available for this position. Candidates must hold full rights to work in Australia to be considered for this position.
  • Location: Kensington, Sydney

The School of Biomedical Sciences

Details of the role

The Research Assistant will provide technical and research assistance to the Pancreatic Cancer Translational Research Group and will be responsible for designing and conducting research experiments, including therapeutic treatment of in vitro and in vivo models of pancreatic cancer as well as a 3D human explant model of the disease, assessment of therapeutic response and assisting the broader team with other research related duties.

They will also be writing weekly/monthly reports, compose and communicate findings to key members of the program, and present at weekly meetings.

The role of Research Assistant reports to the co-leads of the Pancreatic Cancer Translational Research Group and has no direct reports.

Some key skills required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in biological sciences or a related discipline, with Honours or Masters.
  • Mammalian tissue culture and manipulation (general culture, nucleic acid transfection, viral transduction, drug treatments).
  • Mouse handling experience including establishment, treatment, and analysis of mouse models of cancer.
  • Nanoparticle synthesis and characterisation.
  • Phenotypic assessment of cell response in culture (including assays to measure proliferation, clonogenicity, apoptosis, senescence).
  • General molecular biology techniques (including RNA/DNA/protein extraction, qPCR, Western blot, cloning).
  • Experience performing and quantifying immunohistochemistry.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills: able to contribute to papers, grants, technical reports, and present research at conferences.
