Job Description Summary: The Metabolism Core is seeking a highly motivated and team-oriented individual to assist in research investigating the metabolic outcomes within the Metabolism core. Individual will be responsible for performing research projects, day to day lab maintenance and assisting investigator/researchers as directed by the Principal Investigator. The research is housed in modern laboratory space with state-of-the-art equipment and will build on a long history of innovative service to the KUMC research community.
Job Description:
- Manage day-to-day duties of the Metabolism core, which include collecting data and helping various labs use core equipment, interacting with LAR, and developing new protocols. Perform daily data collection and oversee metabolic core equipment.
- Perform daily data collection and oversee metabolic core equipment.
- Support labs in designing and implementing metabolic outcome measures in the core, provide data analysis, and manage the scheduling and billing of the core equipment.
- Support in laboratory experiments, perform animal husbandry, dissect tissues from animals, and perform analysis, including isolating and measuring DNA, RNA, and/or proteins (PCR, qPCR, and/or Western analysis), and measure metabolites.
- Obtain training and remain in compliance with Lab Animal Resources (LAR) standard operating procedures as determined by KUMC LAR policies.
- Work in conjunction with the PI and other lab members to maintain day-to-day operation of the laboratory, including cleaning, maintaining laboratory inventory, and ordering supplies.
- Assist in genotyping, maintenance, and phenotypic characterization of the transgenic animals.
- Learn new technologies, work on scheduling items with multiple parties, learn, interact, and communicate to solve problems with a variety of staff and departments.

Required Qualifications:
Work Experience: Four years of relevant experience. Education may be substituted for experience on a year-for-year basis. Experience in laboratory work. Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and graphics software.
Preferred Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor's degree in biology, biochemistry, and biophysics. Experience may be substituted for education on a year-for-year basis.
Work Experience: 2 years of experience with laboratory animals, protein expression and purification, histology, western blotting, image analysis, immunohistochemistry, genotyping, and animal surgery. 2 years of experience working in a laboratory.
Skills: Communication skills, resourcefulness, and a desire to learn.

Compensation Statement: The pay range listed for this position is determined by our compensation program using market data and salary benchmarking. A combination of factors is considered in making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, education, experience and training, qualifications relative to the requirements of the position, and funding.
Pay Range: $22.66 - $32.85
