Research Assistant (Vet Technician) Ophthalmology

Job Description

The National University of Singapore invites applications for position of Research Assistant/ Research Associate in the Department of Ophthalmology, Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine.  Appointments will be made on a 1 year contract basis in the first instance, with the possibility of extension.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

Primary Responsibilities and Duties (70%)

  • Manage budget and purchase of laboratory equipment or reagents, including ordering processes
  • Assist with paperwork related to grant applications and manuscript submissions
  • Assist with travel arrangements
  • Help with compliance with Ethics and health and safety and other requirements for proper functioning of the laboratory
  • Support writing of Ethics applications and variations.
  • Ensures that all clinical and pre-clinical activities are carried out in accordance with established research protocol and standards and in compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, policies and procedural requirements. (e.g. IACUC, DSRB)
  • Oversee the planning, scheduling and carrying out of day-to-day animal colony breeding activities and procedures, ensuring efficient workflow and adequate care and treatment of research animals
  • Maintain spreadsheets of animal breeding and interface with Tick@Lab

Secondary Responsibilities and Duties (30%)

  • Support the Monitoring of animals in experimental conditions
  • Support optical measures and handling of animals
  • Assist in animal surgery and tissue dissection
  • All other duties as and when assigned by immediate supervisor.

Qualifications

The applicant should:

  1. Bachelor in Biomedical Science, Veterinary Science or any science discipline (Research Asst)
  2. Masters or above in Biomedical Science, Veterinary Science or any science discipline with more than 5 years experience (preferably in animal-based laboratory work: Research Assoc)
  3. Prior relevant experience, especially with animal work, would be an advantage
  4. Self-motivated and ability to work well in a team and independently
  5. Excellent verbal, written communication in English
  6. Strong interest in research work.
  7. Knowledge of MS Office software
  8. Knowledge of NUS iRIMs, Concur an advantage

Remuneration will be commensurate with the candidate’s qualifications and experience.
