Research Assistant

The London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine (LSHTM) is one of the world’s leading public health universities. The Department of Infectious Disease Epidemiology & International Health is seeking to appoint a Research Assistant to support the Vulnerable Newborn Stillbirth Collaboration (VN-SB) LSHTM core team. The Vulnerable Newborn Stillbirth collaboration is a network of over forty collaborating teams seeking to accelerate stillbirth reduction through novel analyses of existing individual-level data to improve understanding of stillbirth epidemiology to inform stillbirth prevention and improve burden estimates.

The post-holder will support the team with co-ordination activities, data management and analysis, and assist with the drafting of manuscripts and collating feedback from the collaboration. The role will require experience in using statistical software e.g. R, Stata for epidemiological analyses and experience in the development of scientific communication materials (such as PowerPoint slides, visualisations, posters and social media messages).

The post-holder must have a first degree in the field of epidemiology, public health or maternal newborn health and relevant experience in data management and data quality assessment. Further particulars are included in the job description.

The post is full-time 35 hours per week, 1 FTE and fixed-term until 30 June 2026. The post is funded by the Gates Foundation and is available from 01 October 2025.

The salary will be on the LSHTM salary scale, Grade 5 in the range £39,432 - £45,097 per annum pro rata (inclusive of London Weighting). The post will be subject to the LSHTM terms and conditions of service. Annual leave entitlement is 30 working days per year, pro rata for part time staff. In addition to this there are discretionary “Wellbeing Days”. Membership of the Pension Scheme is available. The post is based in London at LSHTM.
