"Research Assistant"

Location: Stephen A Schwarzman Centre for the Humanities, Radcliffe Observatory Quarter, Oxford OX2 6GG

Applications are invited for a part-time (0.8fte, however 0.5fte will be considered) Research Assistant to support a programme of work at the intersection of AI, ethics, creativity, and young people’s lived experience. The post holder will contribute to three closely related research strands focused on inclusive, ethical and transparent approaches to AI in creative and informational contexts. The role combines qualitative social research, stakeholder engagement and collaborative academic work. The post is fixed-term for 12 months.

The University of Oxford has launched a major initiative in Ethics in AI, leading to the establishment of an Institute for Ethics in AI, based in the Stephen A. Schwarzman Centre for the Humanities, under the aegis of the Faculty of Philosophy. The Institute will build upon the University’s world-class capabilities in the humanities to lead the study of the ethical implications of artificial intelligence and other new computing technologies.

Successful candidates must hold a first degree together with some relevant experience in sociology, social anthropology or social psychology or a closely related field. Also essential are excellent writing skills including the ability to write text that can be published in peer-reviewed journals, specialist knowledge in the discipline, research skills, and the ability to work independently and without close supervision.
