In the frame of the ERC consolidator UNIVOC project, the CNRS is seeking an enthusiastic research assistant specialized in the analytical chemistry of volatile organic compounds.
Global change is compromising the Ocean and Human Health by favoring the development of Harmful Algal Blooms in many regions worldwide. An increasing number of coastal dinoflagellate blooms are associated with respiratory disorders, threatening the health of the population. While the airborne toxic factors remain undisclosed in the majority of dinoflagellates blooms, deciphering the diversity of sea-air transferred marine-produced compounds is urgently needed. In UNIVOC, volatile organic compounds are hypothesized to play a key role in shaping the toxicity of these blooms, through chemical interactions within the marine microbial sphere.
To explore this hypothesis, the LOV will acquire a new PTR-Tof-MS in spring 2027 to perform the experiments throughout the life-time of the project. The hired research assistant will be in charge of the PTR-Tof-MS upon its receipt and will actively participate to all experimental work, including 3 field sessions in summer 2027 (France), spring 2028 (USA) and fall 2028 (USA). She/He will run the instrument (set up, calibrations, troubleshooting) and will analyze and interpret the data. A training session is planned at the reception of the instrument. The research assistant will also train and assist students and postdoc with their experiments in the lab and will participate to original experimental designs.
The research assistant will join the CHOC team at the LOV (https://lov.imev-mer.fr/web/team-choc/), a multi-disciplinary working environment.
