Research Associate 1, MS
Overview
This individual will be responsible for carrying out and managing the day to day operations of the laboratory, including animal work for research projects under the guidance of research program leadership. The individual will also be responsible for maintaining the laboratory and biorepository, training and new postgraduate associates/research associates, and ensuring all safety and research compliances are met. The ideal candidate will have the flexibility to work occasional hours on evenings and weekends (as needed), based on experimental design. The research program and laboratory conduct clinical and translational research in the areas of cardio-renal interactions in heart failure. The program maintains a large biorepository and utilizes novel technologies/processes and state-of-the-art instrumentation to carry out high throughput processing.
Required Skills and Abilities
- Ability to independently plan and conduct multiple, complex, basic research studies. Strong technical and scientific abilities to perform complex laboratory experiments and procedures. Detail oriented both in experimental work and in record keeping.
- Ability to follow complex, multi-step protocols precisely, understand the scientific basis underlying each step of the protocol and independently troubleshoot complex, multi-step protocols with limited supervision.
- Positive attitude, strong work ethic and the ability to work directly with others or to work independently (depending on the given task).
- Ability to learn new techniques and experimental protocols. Excellent time management skills to manage multiple ongoing projects. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Proven ability to follow directions and work with minimal supervision.
- Ability to train incoming lab personnel in experimental methods developed in laboratory.
Preferred Skills and Abilities
- Master’s Degree in a scientific discipline with at least two year experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Proven experience with standard techniques and assays including ELISA, Western Blots, immunohistochemistry, qPCR, mass spectrometry will be valued.
Principal Responsibilities
- Recommends the design and implementation of procedures and protocols under the direction of a higher-level authority. 2. Investigates, analyzes, and reaches preliminary scientific conclusions related to research planning 3. Ensures data results are compiled, analyzed, and presented properly. 4. Analyzes, develops and interprets scientific results. Maintains clear documentation of results. Prepares scientific reports and papers for research proposals and published reports. 5. Performs independent research and laboratory techniques and participates in experimental research planning. 6. Interacts with internal contacts including the PI, research assistants, graduate students, Radiation Safety and Biological Safety officers, and Animal Care personnel to discuss and evaluate research results and to ensure the smooth and safe operation of the laboratory. 7. Interacts with external contacts such as researchers at other institutions, staff at biotechnology and reagents companies to consult on research methods and to keep abreast of product information and developments. 8. May perform other duties as assigned.
Required Education and Experience
Master’s Degree in a scientific discipline and one year experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
