A full-time Research Associate is expected to support the delivery of tasks of projects on sustainable alternative fuels for marine application.

FTE: 1.0
Term: Fixed Term Until 30 June 2028

We are seeking a full-time Research Associate to support the delivery of the FLEETFor55 project, a Horizon Europe initiative. FLEETFor55 is an ambitious research programme focused on advancing sustainable maritime transport. It aims to become a lighthouse project leading innovation in retrofit and new vessel designs for short-sea, inland waterway, and high-seas vessels. The successful candidate will contribute to the research activities of the FLEETFor55 project, working on areas related to onboard marine systems, vessel operations, risk assessment, and lifecycle assessment of alternative marine fuels and emerging energy technologies (EETs).

You are expected to conduct literature reviews, develop questionnaires, and carry out surveys, collect, analyse, and interpret data; undertake simulations; and record research outcomes. You will write up research findings and contributing to reports, publications, and project deliverables, assist with administrative tasks and support teaching and knowledge exchange activities where required.

You will hold (or be close to completing) a PhD in a relevant discipline and possess broad and deep knowledge in the fields of marine systems, vessel operation, risk assessment, and lifecycle analysis of alternative fuels and technologies.

You will also have strong research and analytical skills, with experience in relevant methodologies, including excellent organisational skills and the ability to plan, prioritise, and meet deadlines. You should have effective interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage, collaborate, and present complex information clearly to diverse audiences. You should have the ability to work both independently under general supervision and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
