Research Associate (AI Computational)

Job Description

The Institute for Functional Intelligent Materials is looking for a candidate to work on the following key responsibilities:

  • Design, plan and execute research experiments or computational studies under the supervision of principal investigators and senior researchers
  • Operate, maintain and troubleshoot laboratory equipment, instruments, and experimental setups (e.g., cryogenics, vacuum systems, optics, detectors, electronics, nanofabrication tools, etc)
  • Develop, test and optimize experimental protocols, measurement techniques, and data acquisition systems to achieve project milestones
  • Implement data analysis pipelines using appropriate statistical, numerical and visualization tools and ensure data integrity and reproducibility
  • Prepare technical documentation, maintain detailed laboratory notebooks, and manage experimental data sets and version-controlled code repositories
  • Assist in grant preparation, progress reports, regulatory compliance (i.e., safety and ethical approvals) and procurement of specialized equipment and materials
  • Mentor and supervise interns and visiting researchers and provide training on techniques, safety and best practices
  • Coordinate collaborative activities with internal and external partners, including industry collaborators, national laboratories and other university groups

Job Requirements

  • Master’s in Physics, Materials Science, or relevant field with relevant working experience
  • Research focuses on structural design and interfacial engineering of metal-based nanomaterials, conducted systematically across four areas: photocatalysis, low-dimensional micro/nanomaterial synthesis, high-efficiency energy-saving and energy-storage technologies and devices, and biomass valorization
  • Precisely construct and tune nanoscale structures and interfaces to optimize charge separation, transport, and reaction kinetics in photo- and electro-catalytic processes, enhancing catalytic activity and selectivity
  • Develop functionalized low-dimensional micro/nanomaterials to increase active-site exposure and improve interfacial electronic/ionic transport, thereby boosting catalytic efficiency and stability
  • Integrate materials and interface engineering outcomes into high-efficiency energy-saving and storage devices to advance energy conversion and storage performance and optimize device synergistic operation
  • Apply the developed materials and catalytic systems to biomass valorization, using coupled electro- and photoelectrocatalytic pathways to improve conversion efficiency and product selectivity
  • Strong written and oral communication skills for drafting reports, manuscripts and presenting results
  • Ability to communicate complex ideas to multidisciplinary teams
  • Proven capacity to work both independently and collaboratively in a team-oriented research environment and demonstrated organisational skills and attention to detail
