Research Associate
Job Summary
Coordinate activities of trainees and technicians in the laboratory; provide administrative support of research initiatives; perform, plan and execute independent studies; develop and evaluate new research techniques and procedures; ensure compliance with rules and regulations pertaining to use of biohazardous materials, oversee the use of materials and equipment in the laboratory.
Responsibilities
The responsibilities include but are not limited to: Ensure compliance with rules and regulations pertaining to use of biohazardous material (Biological Safety); chemicals (Chemical Safety); anesthetic drugs (DEA:IACUC); and experimental animals (LAS, IACUC); oversee use of materials and equipment. Research scientific literature regarding current understanding or experimental paradigms; conduct experiments, analyze results, and summarize findings; prepare findings for presentations at national and international meetings, publications and grants. Advise principal investigators, post-doctoral fellows, graduate students and technicians on research techniques, procedures; assist trainees and other technicians with analysis of project data. Maintenance and upkeep of research protocols for mouse research. May perform a variety of administrative duties such as ordering equipment and supplies; responsible for maintenance of equipment schedules, record keeping, clean-up, etc. Coordinate research activities and procedures of staff, graduate and summer students by continuous discussion amongst all lab members. Participate in project planning and development of research protocols; develop and evaluate techniques and procedures. Perform a variety of genetic, genomic, and cell biological experiments to study aging research, maintain mouse lines for aging research. Perform other related duties incidental to work described herein.
Required Qualifications
Master's degree from an accredited college or university in chemistry, biology, biochemistry, cell biology or other natural, life, health care or materials science directly related to the research area to which the position is assigned and experience in research, basic science or clinical laboratory particularly clinical trial research. OR Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in chemistry, biology, biochemistry, cell biology or other natural, life, health care, or materials science directly related to the research area to which the position is assigned and a minimum of three years' research and/or clinical experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Previous supervisory experience.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Excellent customer service, interpersonal, multi-tasking, organizational and verbal/written communication skills. Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint) and other computer software/databases. Ability to coordinate multiple projects simultaneously, meet deadlines despite often interruptions, maintain confidentiality, keep accurate records and make independent decisions.
Shift/Salary/Benefits
Shift: Days/M-F (work outside of normal business hours will likely be required of an employee in an exempt level position). Pay Band: B8. Salary Minimum: $45,400/annually - $50,000/annually. Salary to be commensurate with qualifications of the selected candidate within the established range (generally minimum-midpoint) of the position. Recruitment Period: 7/30/25 - Until Filled.
