The Bridges Lab in the Department of Biological Sciences at Carnegie Mellon University is seeking a Research Associate to join our interdisciplinary team. We welcome applications from candidates at a range of training levels - including recent graduates with a Bachelor's or Master's degree as well as those with a Doctoral degree looking for a senior scientist role. Our lab investigates the dynamic interactions between bacteria and their environments, with a focus on microbial signal transduction, biofilm formation, and spatial organization using cutting-edge imaging approaches. Core Responsibilities:
- Perform microbiology and molecular biology experiments, including bacterial genetics and microbial growth assays.
- Conduct advanced microscopy and imaging studies; contribute to image analysis and data interpretation.
- Use computational tools and software packages to collect, process, and analyze research data.
- Compile and maintain detailed records; summarize data for analysis, presentation, or publication.
- Collaborate with team members across experimental and computational disciplines.
- Participate in lab meetings and contribute to manuscripts, presentations, and reports.
- Maintain a lab job.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's, Master's, or Doctoral degree in Biological Sciences, Microbiology, Bioengineering, or related field. Responsibilities will be tailored to background.
- 1-3 years of relevant laboratory research experience.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, reasoning, and communication skills.
- Experience in one or more of the following areas is highly valued: Microbiology (microbial ecology, bacterial genetics, host-microbe interactions). Microscopy (fluorescence imaging, image analysis). Computational biology/bioinformatics (large dataset handling, image analysis tools).
- Programming experience in Python, MATLAB, or similar is a plus.
- A combination of education and relevant experience from which comparable knowledge is demonstrated may be considered.
