Your work will benefit from direct collaboration with coinvestigators Dr Helen Margolis and Dr Jacob Tunesi at the National Physical Laboratory (NPL), as well as Strathclyde investigators also involved with the EPSRC funded Quantum Technology Hubs.
Successful applicant will be based in the Ultracold Matter and Quantum Technologies (UMQT) group at Strathclyde, working in collaboration with researchers developing atomic sensors. Candidates will have a PhD (or equivalent) in experimental atomic physics and practical experience of development of platforms for atomic sensors. Technical knowledge of atomic metrology, including lasers, optics and vacuum, is highly desired. An ability to prepare scientific publications and present research outcomes at local, national and international research meetings is expected.
The UMQT group has active research and development projects in a wide variety of cutting-edge quantum technology projects. This is part of an extensive programme seeking to translate fundamental research in atom-photon interactions to applications in sensing and metrology. A particular aspect of our work is technology development towards miniaturisation and ultimately manufacturability of atomic devices, that can be operated outside a laboratory environment.
The University of Strathclyde has established a position as a leading UK centre for Quantum Technology covering activities from fundamental and applied research through technology development to industrialisation. The University and the Department of Physics have invested in academic appointments and the development of new state-of-the-art laboratory spaces, as part of a strategic aim to support and expand these activities.
