A full-time Research Associate staff position is available in the Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care & Sleep Medicine, Department of Internal Medicine at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. Under the supervision of a designated administrator, the Research Associate will apply professional knowledge, skills, and training to help conduct experimental research work in the area of inflammatory lung diseases. The Research Associate title encompasses individuals at all degrees that have a basic level of competency in research but not an independent research program.
Essential Functions
- Assist with the coordination of research studies in a particular discipline.
- Make independent contributions to projects and studies based on professional training or functional experience.
- Solve problems using combined research knowledge.
- Independently works on whole projects/problems.
- Contribute to the collective team effort.
- Perform statistical and graphical analysis of data, interpret data and assist in judging validity of data.
- Analyze research results.
- Organize data search and analysis procedures.
- Assist in establishing test controls, criteria and research standards.
- Assist in the design of complex data processing systems to analyze research data.
- Accomplish assigned results for project/studies, or for significant aspects of larger, complex assignments.
- Serve as a seasoned level researcher.
- May provide direct and/or indirect supervision to exempt and non-exempt staff (i.e., hiring/firing, performance evaluations, disciplinary action, approve time off, etc.).

Required Education
Bachelor’s Degree in biology or relevant scientific discipline.
Required Experience
In-depth knowledge of specialized field, process or discipline. May require experience with specialized software programs.
Additional Qualifications Considered
Master’s degree or higher in biology or relevant scientific discipline. Ability to operate and maintain lab equipment. Familiarity and comfort with animal-based translational research preferably including basic surgical procedures. Ability to perform other standard biological techniques, such as common quantitative and qualitative methods (proteins, DNA and RNA), chromatography, cell isolation and culture, handling of radioactive reagents, and more. 1-2 years of experience working in a research lab setting.
