We are seeking a motivated Research Associate to work within the PAL laboratory within the School of Biosciences at the University of Kent.
This role is funded by the British Heart Foundation for investigating the assembly of multi-protein complexes in congenital heart defects. The successful candidate will work on a cutting-edge experimental research project involving assemblies of multi-protein complexes. The project combines biochemistry, biophysics, and structural biology. The structural biology part of the project will involve multi-protein complex assemblies, single-particle cryo-electron microscopy (cryo-EM) and X-ray crystallography. The role will also include developing research objectives, conducting research, writing research work for publication, and liaising with national and international collaborators. There will also be an opportunity to learn cell biology to complement the structural biology work.

As a Research Associate you can expect to be involved in:
- Contributing to the design and execution of research projects, ensuring alignment with institutional and departmental goals.
- Developing research proposals and objectives, collaborating with colleagues to enhance project outcomes.
- Conducting individual and collaborative research, gathering and analysing data to derive meaningful conclusions.
- Organising, storing and writing up results and report regularly to the research group, partners and other stakeholders.
What will you bring to the role?
- PhD in Biochemistry, structural biology or related relevant discipline or equivalent (or to be in the final stages of obtaining such a qualification and able to evidence that the PhD viva will be held as soon as possible)
- Proven experience in conducting research projects, including data collection and analysis
- Specialist expertise in or theoretical knowledge in molecular biology, biochemistry, especially protein expression, purification
