Academic ConnectResearch Associate (f/m/d) in the field of surface treatment of 3D-printed dental restorations

To strengthen its team, the Chair of Microtechnology and Medical Device Technology (MIMED) at the Technical University of Munich is now looking for a research assistant (f/m/d) to develop a system for the surface coating of dental restorations.
The project:
A collaborative project aims to develop a novel system for coating dental restorations. The goal is to cost-effectively produce long-term provisionals using additive manufacturing. Due to their layered structure, additively manufactured components exhibit a certain degree of unevenness or roughness on their surfaces. The planned system should make it possible to compensate for these unevennesses using a suitable coating material and make the surface resistant to the stresses encountered in the mouth.
The focus of the work packages is on the implementation of a spray applicator for applying the coating. To achieve a uniform and quantifiable layer thickness, the position and orientation of the applicator and restoration will be recorded using a suitable measuring system. This allows compliance with the optimal spray distance and the amount of coating applied to be recorded.
Your tasks:
Development and realization of real functional prototypes for a surgical training system with instrument tracking
Development and implementation of algorithms for determining the instrument position from the measurement data of the tracking system
Validation of the accuracy of the system
Supporting the chair in teaching activities
Your profile:
Proven experience in MATLAB, CAD design, machine learning/AI and µ-controller programming
Knowledge and enjoyment in implementing creative solutions to technical problems
Strong spatial thinking skills and independent work
Above-average degree in natural sciences or engineering or GRE test
Very good knowledge of German and English, as well as flexibility and the ability to work in a team
