About the role
Our group invites applications by highly talented researchers of outstanding ability for a Research Associate position in General Framework for Nonequilibrium Processes: From Theory to Applications as part of the ERC Advanced Grant/UKRI Frontier Research "Machine-Aided General Framework for Fluctuating Dynamic Density Functional Theory (MAGFFDDFT)". You will lead the overarching phase of this cutting-edge project, that transitions its computational-theoretical developments into targeted practical applications.
What you would be doing
The overarching objective of the MAGFFDDFT project is to develop a machine-learning-aided framework that establishes low-dimensional laws governing the dynamics of observables. You will apply this framework to analyse classical fluids, and complex multiscale systems in general, far from equilibrium.
Specifically, you will lead the project's third core theme: applying our newly developed theory and machine learning (ML) methodologies to challenging, targeted applications.
What we are looking for
You should have (or about to receive) a PhD in Applied Mathematics, Engineering, Physics, or other related field, and a strong foundation and proven record in general mathematical modelling, mathematical techniques (analytical – numerical), scientific computing and numerical methods.
Experience or good knowledge with some or all of the following areas is highly desirable: computational and applied mathematics, especially numerical and applied analysis of partial differential equations (PDEs)/stochastic PDEs and stochastic processes, and physics, especially fluid dynamics and statistical physics.

You can start immediately. The post is available for 24 months in the first instance, with the possibility of extension subject to research funding. It is based in the Complex Multiscale Systems Group of the Department of Chemical Engineering at Imperial College London (South Kensington Campus).
