Date Posted: October 24, 2026
Institution Name: Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi — Industrial Research & Development Unit (IRD)
Advertisement No.: IITD/IRD/296/2026, dated 23.10.2026
Indian Institute of Technology Delhi has released the IIT Delhi Recruitment 2026 notification inviting applications from Indian nationals for Project Appointment under a CPRI, Bangalore-sponsored project titled “Developing an effective protocol to mitigate foaming in flue gas desulfurization-absorber unit due to biomass co-firing in thermal power plants: Part 1 (RM0081G),” in the Department of Energy Science and Engineering. IIT Delhi is a premier Institute of National Importance offering advanced engineering, science, and research programmes. Positions are open across three categories — Research Associate, JRF/SRF, and Junior Project Assistant (Tech.) — for candidates with relevant doctoral, postgraduate, or graduate qualifications in Thermal/Mechanical/Energy/Chemical disciplines. Eligible candidates can apply by email, with the last date for submitting completed applications being November 2, 2026, by 5:00 p.m. Full details on eligibility, fellowship, and the application procedure are provided below.
Institution Profile
Indian Institute of Technology Delhi is one of the 23 IITs created to be Centres of Excellence for training, research and development in science, engineering and technology in India. Established as College of Engineering in 1961, the Institute was later declared as an Institution of National Importance under the “Institutes of Technology (Amendment) Act, 1963” and was renamed as “Indian Institute of Technology Delhi”. It was then accorded the status of a Deemed University with powers to decide its own academic policy, to conduct its own examinations, and to award its own degrees.
Employment Type
Contractual, consolidated pay, renewable yearly or up to the duration of the project, whichever is earlier
Project Background
The percentage utilization of agro-waste in thermal power plants has been lower than expected due to several practical challenges, including foaming and tripping of the pumps in the flue gas desulfurization (FGD) unit, as well as ash handling, combustion instability, and so on. There is also a lack of standardized data on biomass behavior under Indian conditions, particularly regarding emission profiles, slagging propensity, reactivity, and foam formation in lime-treated systems under biomass co-firing. The Government of India has mandated 7% mixing of biomass in thermal power plants for co-firing, and this project has been framed to collect and characterize biomass samples, study foam samples from FGD units, optimize biomass blending ratio and lime quality, and develop corrective measures to suppress foaming and mitigate related challenges.
