Research Associate- MCG Neuroscience & Regenerative Medicine
Job Summary
Conduct research on Alzheimer's disease, neuropsychiatric disorders, and the microbiome using transgenic mouse models. Performs drug treatment and behavioral tests on mice. Develops hypotheses to be tested and ways of testing them. Performs a standardized protocol for collecting mouse specimens including brain and other peripheral organs, preparing these samples for histology and molecular/biochemical analysis. Perform stereotactic surgery. Perform a variety of complex chemical, biological, cytologic, microscopic, histologic, surgical, statistical/computational and dissection procedures. Primary cell culture, histology, and imaging of mouse nervous system tissue. Managing transgenic mouse colony and performing small animal surgical and behavioral procedures. Identifies and implements experimental and analytical pipeline improvements and refinements. Prepares and submits papers on research. Contribute to manuscript and grant preparation by providing figures, methods, and technical expertise. Mentor junior lab members and promote a collaborative, high-performance lab culture. Following instructions and discussions with the principal investigator, designs research protocols, including developing procedures for the collection, verification and management of data.

Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
Master's degree from an accredited college or university in chemistry, biology, biochemistry, cell biology or other natural, life, health care or materials science directly related to the research area to which the position is assigned and experience in research, basic science or clinical laboratory particularly clinical trial research. OR Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in chemistry, biology, biochemistry, cell biology or other natural, life, health care or materials science directly related to the research area to which the position is assigned and a minimum of three years' research and/or clinical experience; previous supervisory experience.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Proficient in Microsoft Office and other computer software/databases. Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills. Detail-oriented with strong prioritization and organizational skills. Ability to maintain confidentiality. Ability to complete work and to meet deadlines. Willingness and ability to work with research animals. Ability to work independently with only general supervision.
Shift/Salary/Benefits
Shift: Days; Monday - Friday (Work outside of normal business hours may be required). Pay Band: B8. Salary to be commensurate with qualifications of the selected candidate within the established range (generally minimum-midpoint) of the position. Recruitment Period: Until Filled.
