Research Associate- MCG Physiology
Job Summary
This position provides administrative and technical oversight in a cardiorenal research laboratory in the Department of Physiology. Responsibilities include ensuring research protocols are followed, safety guidelines are met, managing laboratory resources, providing teaching and technical oversight to trainees and research staff, processing data, presenting findings, assisting the Principal Investigator (PI: Dr. Alison Kriegel) with research applications, and coordinating administrative and technical arrangements for animal models.
Research in the Kriegel laboratory focuses on understanding molecular changes associated with hypertension and/or acute/chronic kidney pathology, and how chronic kidney disease leads to cardiovascular disease in adults and children. The laboratory uses cutting-edge molecular technologies and involves work with cell and animal models, as well as translational studies with human subjects.
Responsibilities
- Lab Management: Coordinate research activities, instruct staff and students, and advise on research techniques.
- Animal Management: Coordinate arrangements for animal models, maintain records, perform procedures like injections and euthanasia, and assist with animal protocol preparation.
- Experiments: Perform data analysis, plan research protocols, control execution by staff, analyze data, and prepare publication-ready figures.
- Fiscal Management: Track and monitor budgetary resources, interface with vendors on orders and payments.
- Safety and Compliance: Ensure safe lab operations and compliance with federal guidelines.
- Grant Development: Assist PI with data preparation for grant applications and participate in composing research findings.
- Other: Perform incidental duties as needed.
Required Qualifications
Master's degree in chemistry, biology, biochemistry, cell biology, or related field, with research experience; or Bachelor's degree with a minimum of three years' research experience and previous supervisory experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in designing and executing research protocols, working with small animals, animal surgery, and studying cardiorenal disease.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Proficient in Microsoft Office; understanding of laboratory protocols; background in Biology, Chemistry, or Biochemistry; experience in conducting complex experiments; excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills; ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment.
Shift/Salary/Benefits
Shift: Days, Monday - Friday. Salary: $45,400 - $56,700 annually. Benefits include health insurance, retirement options, vacation, sick leave, and paid holidays.
